IPOPI PID Forum: Growing Older with a PID

We are delighted that one of our members Aoife McKeever MSc, BNS, RGN, who works at St James Hospital in Dublin recently attended the PID forum at The European Parliament in Brussels and represented INGID.  Please see below for a short update on the forum:

On 21st April 2026, I had the pleasure of attending the European Parliament, Brussels as a representative of INGID, to take part in the IPOPI PID Forum “Growing Older with a PID: Challenges and opportunities in an ageing Europe”. The event was hosted by MEP Tomislav Sokal and MEP Kristian Vigenin, and moderated by Leire Solis, IPOPI’s Health Policy and Advocacy Director. Politicians, Policy-makers, Health-strategists, Healthcare Professionals and Patient-organisation representatives were gathered together to share their insights on this timely and important topic.

My role in the event was to take part in the integral panel discussion, where I had the opportunity to present and discuss my own experience and nursing perspective in supporting patients with PID as they transition towards, and reach older age. I highlighted the importance of proactive future-planning, improved data collection via international registries, adaptable treatment pathways across the life-cycle, Nurse-led models of care, home-therapy programmes, telemedicine platforms and multi-disciplinary collaboration.

All in all, I found this to be a hugely enjoyable and inspiring experience, and I cannot recommend it more positively to any INGID member given the opportunity to participate in a similar event in the future.
