MEDIA RELEASE: INGID launches new online community hub

INTERNATIONAL NURSING GROUP FOR IMMUNODEFICIENCIES (INGID) LAUNCHES NEW ONLINE COMMUNITY HUB TO IMPROVE CARE FOR PATIENTS WITH IMMUNODEFICIENCY

The International Nursing Group for Immunodeficiencies (INGID) has launched a brand-new, resource-packed community hub to educate and communicate with its members and carers for people with primary immunodeficiency diseases.

The International Nursing Group for Immunodeficiencies (INGID) was formed in 1994 by nurses working with children and adults diagnosed with primary immunodeficiency disorders. INGID is run by members, for members. It is managed by a Board of experienced nurses in immunology who are volunteers and who are elected at the biennial INGID conference. INGID aims to improve and extend the quality of nursing care of patients with primary immune deficiencies, and to increase the awareness and understanding of primary immunodeficiencies amongst nurses.

The new community hub delivers a fantastic resource for anyone interested in the treatment of primary immunodeficiencies. Primarily designed for nurses, it includes substantial educational materials on primary immunodeficiencies and their treatment, provides information on INGID and its members, and highlights upcoming events in the field of immunodeficiency treatment.

The new platform is a place for primary immunodeficiency nurses around the world. INGID President Amena Warner says, “we are really excited about the potential for the platform to bring together immunodeficiency nurses from every corner of the world, forming an ongoing and dynamic community.” Through the platform, nurses can share their experiences, discuss clinical practice and seek advice on challenges in immunodeficiency nursing.

Benefits to members of the new platform include:

  • Access to a members-only section with discussion forums
  • Ability to securely share stories and photos from conferences, events or meetings
  • Member-only access to special teaching materials

Educational Materials

A vast range of relevant educational materials on immunodeficiencies and their treatment options are incorporated into the new platform.

“It is a source of educational resources for nurses in immunodeficiency, regardless of their starting point,” says Ms Warner. “Some of our members are very experienced, but others are new to the area and are in need of basic training. The platform caters to all members, linking to our accredited training course and making older resources of interest to our members more easily accessible.”

Regular educational resources available on the platform include:

Gateway to e-learning courses

As an example, the platform also provides a gateway to INGID’s first e-learning course, developed by an international panel of experts in the field of immunoglobulin therapy and in cooperation with the CME provider Medicalwriters.com. The first course, on the selection of immunoglobulin treatment is now available online. The course:

  • Addresses the process for choosing the right method of immunoglobulin replacement therapy for patients, including clinical, pharmacological, psychological and practical considerations.
  • Is accredited by the International Council of Nurses (ICN)
  • Is available in eight different languages (English, Danish, German, Spanish, Swedish, French, Polish and Italian)
  • Is fully open and available to nurses and physicians free of charge

An up-to-date resource

With topical information – including details of conferences, upcoming events and new resources on the treatment of immunodeficiencies – the new platform is timely and relevant.

Regular visitors to this hub will benefit from the latest INGID has to offer:

This new platform establishes INGID as the predominant organisation for nurses in immunodeficiency.

“INGID’s updated online presence is a really exciting development for people working in immunodeficiency nursing,” says Ms Warner. “Whether you’re an experienced nurse in the UK or a beginning nurse in Brazil, the website brings together all our members and provides them with the networks and resources they need to do their job, which is to make the lives of people with immunodeficiencies better.”
